What Are Facial Fillers?

Injectable facial fillers have grown in popularity in recent years, and are often the go-to treatment option for rejuvenating facial imperfections. Many choose fillers in order to avoid the pain, expense, and long recovery time that is associated with a traditional, surgical facelift. We offer the following dermal fillers:

Sculptra

Sculptra is one form of injectable filler that can help restore facial volume that has been reduced due to aging or certain illnesses. The injected substance helps stimulate your skin’s collagen production and results in a more youthful appearance.

Restylane

Restylane® injectable gel is a cosmetic filler that contains hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance that is found in the body. HA gives volume and elasticity to the skin, but as the body ages, HA levels decrease, resulting in loose skin and wrinkling. When injected, Restylane gel is designed to plump the skin beneath lines and wrinkles, smoothing them out and making them less noticeable.

When Will I See Results of Dermal Fillers?

The great thing about choosing a dermal filler for facial rejuvenation is that they work instantly and results can be seen right away. Most people notice the results of a filler injection immediately after the first treatment, however, improvements to the skin will continue over the next few weeks. For most, full results are seen within 1 month of treatment.

How Long Do Fillers Last?

Each filler option is slightly different, so the results can vary. Not only that, but every person’s skin reacts differently to the treatment. For many people, the effects from a facial filler treatment last around 6 months and treatments can be repeated. But, for some fillers, the effects could last for years. Ask your doctor about what you can expect for your filler treatment.

Neuromodulators vs. Dermal Fillers

Botox/Dysport and filler treatments are both cosmetic procedures that are injected into the face during a short office visit. They are both minimally invasive and are great solutions for those who would like to avoid surgery. The key differences between the two treatment types are found below.

Do Botox & Dysport work the same way as fillers?

  • Botox/Dysport are neuromodulators and paralyze the facial muscles in order to relax the face and give a smoother, younger look.
  • Dermal fillers are made of solutions that “plump” the facial area in order to smooth wrinkles and give a more youthful appearance.

Do Botox & Dysport last longer than fillers?

  • Botox/Dysport results last around 3-4 months.
  • Dermal fillers last between 6 months and years (with large variances depending on which product is used)
