Which Type of Filler Should I Use?
Dermal fillers are injections that dermatologists can use to improve your appearance by adding fullness to certain areas or diminishing lines in other areas. There are several different kinds of fillers available. The type that you should use depends on the effects you’re looking for and other factors, such as your skin elasticity. Learn more about a few different types of dermal fillers that are available.
What Should I Expect from Dermal Fillers?
No matter which dermal filler you choose, keep in mind that you might experience some temporary and mild side effects. These include redness at the injection site, swelling and bruising. More serious reactions are rare. When you have dermal fillers injected, you might experience slight discomfort, although some fillers help minimize this with the use of an anesthetic. It’s also important to remember that dermal fillers produce results that are temporary.
Juvederm Fillers
These fillers contain hyaluronic acid, which is substance your body makes on its own. Hyaluronic acid helps your skin maintain its elasticity and volume and stay moist. Aging can cause decreases in the amount of hyaluronic acid your body makes, but Juvederm can help restore your skin to a healthier appearance. Some Juvederm fillers can smooth fine lines that form around your mouth and nose and from your mouth to your chin. Other Juvederm fillers can make your lips more plump or reduce lines that form on your lips. The effects of these fillers can last anywhere between six and 18 months.
Restylane Fillers
Restylane is another dermal filler that can help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles or add more volume to certain areas. These fillers also contain hyaluronic acid that can be used to reduce severe lines or wrinkles, add volume to cheeks, add fullness to lips and even add more volume to the backs of your hands. Restylane fillers might also help your body increase the production of collagen, which can lower your chance of needing to have several touch-ups done. Collagen helps your skin maintain a healthy and more youthful appearance. The results of Restylane fillers can last from six months to 18 months, depending on the type you have.
Radiesse Fillers
Radiesse fillers are used for smoothing creases in your face, such as those that can form around your nose. These fillers can add volume to your cheeks and other areas of your face, but they’re not used to add fullness to lips. Radiesse fillers have calcium hydroxylapatite, which are minerals that help restore volume to targeted areas. Your body is able to use the calcium in these fillers, resulting in more collagen production. The results of Radiesse fillers can last for about one year or even longer, since these products can cause your body to produce more collagen on its own.
Sculptra Aesthetic Fillers
These fillers are used for adding plumpness to cheeks and other facial areas that appear more sunken. They’re also used for reducing the appearance of fine lines and folds by thickening the skin in these areas. Sculptra Aesthetic fillers are not used to add volume to lips or to correct cosmetic issues around the eyes. These fillers contain poly-L-lactic acid, which is a compound that stimulates collagen production. Patients generally need to have several treatments done in order to get the results they want. The effects of these fillers can last for up two years.
